Inter- and transcultural processes and philosophies

Inter-transcultural processes and philosophies is an inter-disciplinary study circle working with the thematization of ‘terra nullis’. Terra nullis is a term used to describe the no man’s land where inter- and transcultural processes meet. It is a space which cannot be converted into a place dominated by specific myths and forms of logos since this would mean the very end of its life as a space for inter- and transcultural meetings.
Thematizing terra nullis is a prerequisite for avoiding self-centred discourses of philosophy. Philosophical activity needs to be rediscovered as thinking about thinking open to other constitutions of thinking than the way it takes place in so-called Western philosophy. When philosophy becomes self-contained as to the question about what thinking about thinking is it ceases to perform precisely this activity and becomes closed subscribing only to its own logos. It becomes logo-centric. Logo-centrism can easily lead to a rejection of other forms of human expression and thus turn into a dominant mindset in relation to other world views. But logo-centrism can also lead to the very dismantling of philosophy itself. In order to avoid such a logo-centrism the circle searches for and takes its starting point in equivalents and alternatives to “Western philosophical” activities. The ambition is to create a space for the idea that inter- and transcultural processes demand new ways of understanding the relation between philosophy, aesthetics, and society.
The circle runs the website: www.dialogos.nu
